Affordable business laptops now with optional 120 Hz screen

Up until now, the E series ThinkPads suffered from sub-par screens. With the new Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 and the ThinkPad E16 Gen 3, Lenovo invests into fixing this weakness. Plus, the battery capacity of the new office models is also increasing.

The ThinkPads of the E series are the entry point to the ThinkPad series. Up until now, the affordable office laptops often suffered from bad screens, which were "blessed" with a low screen brightness and bad color gamut.

With the new entries to the line, things may be about to change: The Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 and the Lenovo ThinkPad E16 Gen 3 will be offered with new screens. The bad entry level version of the monitor remains, but the upgrade variant is now much better: The E14 Gen 7 has a 2.8K display with 400 cd/m² and 120 Hz refresh rate, the E16 G3 has a 2.5K panel with the same specs.

Apart from the screen, Lenovo is also upgrading the battery capacity. Specifically, the E14 Gen 7 and E16 Gen 3 now feature a 64 Wh battery instead of 57 Wh like on the E14 Gen 6 (available from Amazon) and E16 Gen 2.

Internally, the new ThinkPads are powered by Intel Arrow Lake, with both Arrow Lake H and Arrow Lake U available. Optionally, there also is the Raptor Lake Refresh series and non-specified AMD CPUs, which we would expect to be refreshed Ryzen 8040 series chips.

The chassis of the new E series was completely redesigned, but the basic specs have not changed, and neither has the port selection. The design has simply been updated to the more recent ThinkPad look, with the black ThinkPad logos and protruding webcam bar. 

The ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 and E16 Gen 3 will arrive on the market in April for €670.
